Session 7: Effective Message Design

Assuming that the students just watched a presentation on how to use Interwrite:

For this design, I am having the student use this handout as a reflection piece after exploring the different tools on Interwrite. This handout would then be used as a guide when sharing information at the next discussion (probably synchronous discussion).

I decided to choose the four most used tools, based on my experience, and added a graphic to guide them. It tells them what to practice and to practice changing the different features for each tool.

I thought the chart form for strengths and areas of improvement gave balance and a direct area to put ideas. I tried to stay consistent from top to bottom of the handout.

  2. Hi Amal...

I am actually going a different route. This course is actually for teachers who have this particular software and hardware to use in their classroom, but don't exactly know where to start. So the level of the teachers of using this would be beginner. My job as an instructor would be to help them become more proficient with its use and share ideas with lesson creation. People are actually doing this right now, it's just not done through e-learning. These classes are face to face training.

    Thanks for sharing :)

  3. Heidi, I will be learning the InterWrite software this summer to effectively use my InterWrite pad and dual smart board. Do you use it regularly and if so, can I pick your brain when I hit the wall? I find this every exciting. I also agree with Amal. Identifying strengths and weaknesses serves as a good critical thinking exercise.

  4. Hey Heidi. What software are the teachers using? I like your approach of outlining the strengths and weaknesses. Only suggestion I have is maybe to change the format of the text for the instructions. I know that you made it small so that it would fit above the table, but it might be hard for some to read or differentiate from one task to the next. I like the icons you used to represent each exercise. Nice job.

  5. Hi Donna. Yes, I have been working with InterWrite for a 5 years now. I actually had the chance to work as a support trainer with a company who runs trainings on using it in the classroom. I haven't worked with the dual smart board yet. I have the interactive board, but two students cannot write at the same time. The dual board seems more effective. Definitely pick my brain! I love the program.

Thanks Nate for the suggestion. Making the font bigger would be easier on the eyes.
